"The whole environment for dressage is the rider." -Alexsandra Howard
Based at the incomparable Wacky Nut Farm on Bainbridge Island, Sorensen Dressage provides complete training programs for dressage horses and riders.
Head trainer and instructor, Emily Sorensen, is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist. She builds unabridged training programs and schedules to ensure both horse and rider develop towards their riding goals. In addition, Emily's students learn skills to become better partners and fair leaders for their horses. All aspects of horsemanship are integral pieces to these programs.
Emily built a strong understanding in physiology and biomechanics during her longtime tutelage under the late Alexsandra Howard. After Sandy's passing in 2013, Emily has been continuing her education with Joanie Bolton (CA), Leslie Reid (BC, Can), Anne Gribbons (FL), and Lilo Fore (CA). Though Emily's clientele is primarily dressage riders, she has enjoyed working across many disciplines. Emily has helped eventers polish their dressage test and also trained elite endurance horses for the Tevis Cup. Body awareness and perception know no limits when it comes to riding and training horses!
With training and competition experience from The First Ride thorough FEI, Emily enjoys bringing horses and riders up the levels of dressage. By the age of 23, Emily had earned both USDF Bronze and Silver Medals on scores achieved with self-trained horses, Cristiano and Syrano. Most recently in the show ring, Emily has been training and competing with two exciting prospects. Catalina, a 2006 Hanoverian mare, owned by Emily, and Excalibur "XO", a 2008 Lusitano gelding, owned by Delight Willing.
